This samurai sword is hand-forged from 1060 carbon steel and finished with a clean, traditional appearance. It is designed for collectors, home decor, office display, iaito and kendo practice, and appreciation of Japanese sword-inspired craftsmanship.
The blade is made in a Kissaki-Moroha-Zukuri also known as “小乌丸”(Kogarasu Maru)with Bo-Hi on both sides. The geometry gives the katana a balanced visual profile while keeping the presentation refined and classic.
The Tsuka handle uses a hardwood core with genuine rayskin and is secured with dual Mekugi pegs. These details reflect traditional katana construction aesthetics while keeping the item positioned as a collectible art piece.
The Legend of Kogarasu Maru (小乌丸)
The Kogarasu Maru (Little Crow) is one of the most legendary and culturally significant swords in Japanese history. Believed to have been forged by the legendary smith Amakuni during the 8th century, it represents a crucial evolutionary milestone in Japanese swordsmithing—marking the transition from ancient straight, double-edged swords (Ken) to the iconic curved single-edged swords (Tachi and Katana).
What makes the Kogarasu Maru truly exceptional is its unique blade geometry, known as Kissaki-Moroha-Zukuri. Unlike a standard katana, the upper half of the blade near the tip (kissaki) is double-edged, while the lower half retains a traditional thick spine (mune). Combined with a graceful curve (sori), this ingenious design offers the devastating piercing capabilities of a spear, while maintaining the powerful slashing leverage of a curved blade. Today, replicas of the Kogarasu Maru are highly prized by collectors and martial artists as a symbol of elite craftsmanship and martial heritage.

I’ve wanted to collect a Kogarasu Maru for ages but had no luck on other marketplaces until I found this store. The build quality is excellent. It has real rayskin, a full tang construction, and absolutely no glue inside the tsuka (handle), so taking it apart and putting it back together is a breeze. Great sword, very satisfied!
